We are pleased to send you the third newsletter on progress with the new build at Roborough. Since our last update the building has progressed significantly and the roof is on. Fitting out is progressing inside but unfortunately we have experienced frustrating delays with utilities connections. We have therefore had to revise the schedule for the operational opening of the crematorium – please refer to the end of the Newsletter.
The main structure is now well defined and the roof is on the building.

Great care has been taken to protect wildlife in the woodland and we have approached Devon Wildlife Trust to see what further enhancements we can offer.
This is greatly complimented by the forest floor around the crematorium which will be largely undisturbed and allowed to continue in its natural state.
A small remembrance garden will be formed to the front and rear of the building.

The cremator is in situ and will be commissioned as soon as gas and electricity are connected. It is designed for the widest coffins. Space has been left for the eventual fitting of either a second cremator or a resomator depending on legislative change.

As previously mentioned, one of the features of the new crematorium will be the use of local Yennadon stone finishes. As can be seen this is a particular feature in the chapel. This will introduce a rural and rustic feel to the building reminiscent of an agricultural barn. The administration building will be clad in British larch which over time will give up its golden hue to a natural grey finish.
The oak catafalque has been hand made by a local Devonshire craftsman and is of the finest quality.
It is our intention to hold an update meeting for funeral directors, clergy and celebrants at the crematorium as soon as the interior fitout is complete as detailed below.
Whilst we are slightly behind target date now, we remain focused on opening this facility at the earliest possible time. The Bishop of Plymouth has kindly agreed to carry out the dedication service on a date to be confirmed.
We are working on a brochure that will be available within a few weeks.
If you would like to visit the site whilst work progresses, please contact us directly and we will be pleased to arrange this.
In the meantime, we look forward to serving funeral directors and families to the best of our abilities.
